Support Jamaica! JAJA CALENDAR 2026
On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Jamaica was struck by Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful hurricanes in the nation’s history. The full extent of the damage is still unknown, but the southern parish of St. Elizabeth (known as the “Breakfast Parish” for its thriving agriculture), the western parish of Westmoreland (famous for Negril’s beautiful sunsets), and Montego Bay (the “Tourism Capital” and home to the international airport) have all suffered catastrophic damage.
In addition, severe damage has been reported in St. Ann—located on Jamaica’s north coast, where LINK UP JAJA operates its disability support center—as well as in St. Mary, Trelawny, and Manchester.
LINK UP JAJA will continue its work supporting persons with disabilities while also engaging in disaster relief efforts. Although the capacity of a small non-profit organization may be limited, we will make full use of the networks we have built over the years—with local communities, schools, ministries, and volunteer organizations—to provide support that truly meets local needs.
The total damage is estimated to reach billions of dollars, and recovery is expected to take several years. We sincerely ask for your warm and continued support for the people of Jamaica.
